Writing plays is something fairly new to me. I've been writing short stories on and off since I was 8 years old, and my day job involves another form of communication: design, but it wasn't until this year that I decided to give theater a shot. It's so exciting to see it all come to fruition. It's rare that you get to collaborate as a writer—it's a bit of a lonely profession—but in writing theater you get this rush of after-the-fact collaboration as the directors, and actors take what you've written and bring to it their own life experience, and ideas. In some ways, you get to experience a whole new story than what you've written when you see the show performed. Can be a scary thing for some of us control freaks out there (and what writer isn't a little bit of a control freak?) but I tell you what, I can't wait! I hope you enjoy watching these plays half as much as I enjoyed writing them.
