Since
graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in 1999, Marta Masferrer
has worked in the film and theater industry as a writer, director,
producer, and editor. Her short film, BAD BEHAVIOR, is based on
a feature screenplay that was a finalist in the 2003 Sundance
Screenwriters Lab. Marta is an alum of the 2004 NALIP (National
Association of Latino Independent Producers) Latino Writer's Lab
and is currently 1 of 6 selected filmmakers participating in the
NALIP Documentary Mentorship Program, led by Beni Matias, for
her feature documentary, EL TIGRE, which is about her grandfather's
cousin, Rolando Masferrer (The Tiger) who was killed in a car
bomb in Miami in 1975. He is perhaps after Fidel Castro, one of
the most controversial political figures of 20th Century Cuba.
As Castro's archenemy Masferrer was seen as either a fearless
hero or a paramilitary gangster leader of Los Tigres de Masferrer
(The Tigers of Masferrer). Marta is also currently in pre-production
on her next short film MARIACHI ROSE about a homely Mexican girl
who dreams of being a Mariachi singer at a burlesque lounge.
In addition, Marta will be directing TELLING THE LEAVES by Jason
Nunes at the Samuel French Festival in June of 2004. Prior to
that she was selected as a director in an evening of one-acts
at the Creative Place Theater where she directed THE TOOTH FAIRY
and WHY ARE WE HERE? She was also a finalist at the Swampking
Festival for AND SEVEN TO GO.
